See you at the next epic thing.
God love you. I do.
“Wow,” Annie breathed, leanin back in her chair. “What an amazing story, Grandpa Ennis.”
He looked over at Jack; Jack, his dear husband, after all these years…
“Well, that’s the story a our lives, Darlin,” he said, takin Jack’s hand. “Every last bit a it.”
“Thanks for tellin me the story,” she smiled. “It’s like a fairytale…”
“Sure is,” Jack nodded.
“Hard t’believe, weren’t more’n yesterday we were plannin your mother’s weddin, now we’re plannin yours… An a commitment ceremony for Vick an Jackie, too?”
“Jus one big, expandin busy family,” she shrugged. “Jus’ how I like it!”
It was a few months later that Ennis received a package and letter in the mail from his granddaughter. She an her new husband John were on their honeymoon in Hawaii, in the same place that Ennis had taken Jack on theirs.
He opened the letter.
Dear Grandpa E & J,
Well, I finally made use of my English degree. I hope you enjoy the book.
His heart pounded in his ears as he hollered for Jack. He came racin in from the livin room t’his husband’s side an together they tore open the package; inside was a small book, the shadowy forms a two cowboys on a mountain range in front of a blazin sunset. He read the title an his heart soared.
Brokeback Mountain, by Annie Proulx.
